Tonight’s “exhibition” against the formidable Bellarmine Knights is not your daddy’s walkover.
Exhibit A: LeMoyne 82, Syracuse 79.
Exhibit B: Bellarmine Knights. Allow me to repeat what I said about last year’s edition of the Norris Placers. “They run the motion offense better than any team I’ve seen this year at any level.” There is no reason [...]

The Film Babe and I are going to see the late show of “In The Loop.” But it doesn’t start for another hour and a half. So here I am killin’ time, thinking about the world of sports.
Is Rachel Alexandra the sportsperson of the year?
My Detroit Tigers are 7 games up in the AL Central. [...]

Bellarmine 92, Lake Superior State 83.
Scotty Davenport’s Knights will play the winner of top seeded and host Findlay’s match up with Southern Indiana this evening. The Regional final is Tuesday night at 7:00. The winner advances to the Division II Elite Eight.
Chartrael Hall tallied 27, Justin Benedetti 25 and Braydon Hobbs 18. The Knights had [...]
Scotty Davenport’s Bellarmine Knights won their opening round NCAA tournament game in Findlay, Ohio. They beat Kentucky Wesleyan 76-65. Nick Holmes had 24 points and 9 boards. Braydon Hobbs delivered, as usual, with 7 assists. Justin Benedetti scored 18 points.
The Knights hit 52% from the field and 18-23 at the line. The Knights won the [...]
Scotty Davenport’s 24-6 Bellarmine Knights dropped the GLVC tourney final to Northern Kentucky. Bummer.
But it is of little consequence now. The Knight hoopsters will be dancing this weekend in Findlay, Ohio. And have obviously impressed the NCAA selection committee, since they got a higher seeding than the team that beat them this weekend as well [...]

I’m thinking it’s getting close to tournament time.
First tourney first, I say. As my pal Ben and I always confirm, you only play who you play, i.e. don’t be thinking ahead.
Which means Louisville has to take care of biz this afternoon against the woeful Blue Demons.
But, ignoring my own wisdom, thinking ahead toward the Big [...]

* For some reason, my New York Times didn’t come this morning. So I checked it out online, wanting to see what type of coverage the paper gave the city’s premier college hoops team. Not much. It consisted of 5 paragraphs, taken off the AP wire in the Mens Roundup section along with blurbs about [...]

Awright, so the Knights glided back to earth like a US Airways jet into the Hudson. Like that plane, there are no significant repercussions, thank heavens.
After three stunning wins at home to remain undefeated and vault to #2 in the national rankings, Bellarmine learned yet again about life on the road in the Great Lakes [...]

Johnny Spugs, Bellarmine’s SID, wrote to advise that Braydon Hobbs, the Knight leading scorer who almost has a real flattop, also leads all of Division II in assist to turnover ratio. For the season, Hobbs has 60 assists and just 8 turnovers. For a ratio of 7.5. Glossy.
And, as the student section advised Bellarmine’s latest [...]

If you care about real basketball, if you want to see it played with discipline, if you like watching hoopsters make cuts and passes and go back door and be where they are supposed to be when running their team’s sets, go to Knights Hall the next time undefeated Bellarmine takes the court. (On January [...]
