Monday Evening QB: BCS Is On My Mind, BS Too

QBGiven that a four team “playoff” is still a season away, meaning Bama, Oregon, the Seminoles and the Buckeyes can’t meet in semi-finals just yet, here’s what I’m hoping for.

Florida State vs. The Quack for the BCS title.

Which means the Crimson Tide will need to fall. That could happen this week or @ Auburn. If the Seminoles and Phil Knight U win out, they’ll surely be ahead of Ohio State, which could finish undefeated two years in a row, and play for the “national championship” neither season.

Of the games this past weekend, one that grabbed my attention was Michigan vs. Michigan State. Not for the quality of play certainly.

But it was contested in a chilly autumn drizzle on real grass.

Thus the uniforms got stained and dirty. Like back in the day before fake grass fields.

Is Ed Orgeron to Southern Cal football what Steve Fischer was to Michigan basketball?

The former Ole Miss mentor took over when Lane Kiffin was left to hitchhike home from LAX. The Trojans can’t win the national title, but they are 3-0 in league play since the change. Saturday’s W @ Oregon State was impressive.

Not so much the Beavers orangey orange unis.

We got us some weeknight football this week folks.

I’ll even mention tonight’s NFL throwback battle. Da Bears visit Lambeau. Real grass. Rainy. Fahrenheit in the mid 30s.

Thursday is college pigskin heaven. Oregon visits Stanford. BIG GAME. And Baylor has a chance to prove its for real when Boomer Sooner comes a callin’.

And Friday, U of L is back in action against UConn. Whom, to be honest, the Cards need to throttle. The only hope U of L has to make it to a BCS game is if it stays ahead of Central Florida in those standings. The two are now nip and tuck. Of course, if UCF beats Houston, Louisville is essentially SOL.

I know it’s about branding and marketing and how those trump tradition these days.

Plus that I’m beating a dead horse.

But it still irks me that the Big 10 has 12 teams (soon to be 14 when Midwest powers Rutgers and Maryland join the league).

The Big 12 has 10 teams.

Only on the left coast can they count. the Pac 12 has 12 schools.

Is Will Muschamp soon to be Ron Zooked?

I wouldn’t personally bet against it.

Perhaps he and sure to be fired Charlie Weis can coach somewhere together next season.

The Florida Atlantic Fighting Owls sure enough schnelled up this past Saturday.

They battered Tulane just days after head coach Carl Pelini and an assistant were fired after smoking pot and doing some blow at a party.

Of course, I’d prognosticated a Green Wave W. So, while happy for the FAU faithful, it didn’t help my season prediction average any.
