Actually the header ought to have read Madness Squared, what with the Prime Minister of Britain sitting in the front row with President Obama and all. Guys hitting threes and staring down the world leaders.
And that was just the start.
Western Kentucky was down by 16 with less than 5:00 to play, and Clark Kellogg, always a reasoning man, declared them dead in the water. Then they score 15 without the Delta Devils even getting off a shot. Then miss four free throws that would have tied it and given them a lead. Then take the lead on a +1.
Sean Woods’ Mississippi Valley State melted down like a Japanese nuclear plant. Never seen a anything like it.
But credit WKU. They forced the turnovers. They never backed off. They closed the deal.
That the prize is being fodder for the avaricious Kentucky Wildcats is beside the point. That Western made it to the Round of 64 is grande enough.
Then, during Iona vs. Brigham Young, I did what my pal David did during Western’s rally. I turned off the TV and went to bed.
This morning I discovered the Cougs said to the Toppers, anything you can do, we can do better.
Down 25, and Iona looking to all like this season’s VCU, the Mormons didn’t flinch, started hitting shots. Iona’s’ meltdown was Three Mile Island and few lost bars of nuclear fuel on its way to Iran.

One has to ask?
Where can this tournament possibly go from here?

It would appear that the Fab Melo Era at Syracuse is ovah!
Awwwwwwwwww!
Sometimes the recruiting Gods smile on your favorite team.
Think about it Cardinal fans. What if The Rick had snared Melo, as he thought he was going to do up until the night before signing day? Then U of L would be dealing with reconfiguring its lineup today on the eve of the Dance. And we wouldn’t have the smart, likeable, rapidly improving Gorgui Dieng on our side.
Talk about a boffo consolation prize.

Given the incredible weather, and the presence of four Kentucky schools in the tourney, three playing right here in Louisville, and the Hoosiers also participating, this town has been buzzing for the last couple of days.
It’s a good thing.
