U of L Cardinal Trivia: In case you were wondering . . .

. . . Louisville’s best start ever was in ’74-’75.

The Sports Illustrated jinx took awhile to kick in that season.

The ‘zine picked U of L to win the national title.

The Bridgeman/ Murphy/ Cox squad started off the year by winning 13 in a row, before falling at Bradley.

More stunning is that 7 of the Ws were away games on the opponents’ home courts. @Houston, @ Dayton, @ Florida State, to start the season with 3 away Ws. Plus @ Marquette, @ West Texas State, @ New Mexico State and @ St. Louis.

Of course, that SI jinx did finally come to haunt the Cards.

U of L 74, UCLA 75 in OT in the national semi-final in San Diego.

If Bill Bunton’s fingernails were 1/2 inch longer we win setting up a UK-UofL championship game.

One of the UofL players told me that several of the UCLA players told me we would have beaten UK by 10. Damned those fingernail clippers.

may have been the most gut wrenching game in a long history of card’s gut wrenchers…..the NCAA 2005 WVa game made up for some of it,but the next game against Il.watered it all down…..

There’s a full page trivia article for you: all the gut-renching losses by the Cards.

Arkansas in the 1981 tourney is right up there after that 1975 UCLA loss. I don’t remember ever going from such a high to such a low in such a short span of time.

Most coaches say that their team didn’t lose a game on the final play. They lost it earlier in the game when the team didn’t execute. Course, they’re always the losing coaches that say that.

    Should that have been “gut-wrenching”?
