Bridge to Nowhere: Why are Cards Recruiting Tony Woods?

Rarely have I observed the Cardinal Nation of such a single mind on an issue.

I’ve talked with a lot of serious U of L supporters in the last couple days. Some have been for decades. Some more recent. Young. Old. Male. Female. Caucasian. African-American.

To the person, they are aghast that Louisville would recruit Tony Woods, a player recently kicked off Wake Forest’s team. He is charged with assaulting and battering his “girlfriend,” the mother of his child. During which altercation, she broke her back.

Literally. That’s what a fractured spine is.

He and his AAU mentor immediately starting looking around for somewhere, a more lenient program, to land. The first recruiting visit: University of Louisville.

“Disgusting.”

“Desperate.”

“Repulsive.”

“Incomprehensible.”

Those were some of the reactions that are printable.

Perhaps there is a plausible explanation for the incident which could somehow expurgate the young man. No matter. Given all the circumstances surrounding the U of L basketball program, and the odd state it finds itself a decade into the Pitino regime, the recruitment of Woods displays a stunning lack of due diligence and common sense.

As a lifelong Louisville fan, praying for the Cards return to glory, I am all of the above descriptors and more.

What on earth are they thinking out there?

This is truly a bridge to nowhere . . . but Trouble.

I firmly believe he is deserving of a second chance.

    Somewhere else!
