Louisville Cardinals @ Oregon State: 1st Half Observations

This broadcast crew — I believe they are from Fox Sports NW — is easily the worst in the history of television. Uncle Miltie Berle could do a better job calling this game. And he’s been dead for years.

Note to TV Production Crew: I understand those African Americans with shaved heads all look alike. Buuuuuuuut . . . Charlie Strong is the one with the head set. The guy you keep putting on the screen is strength coach Pat Moorer.

While U of L self destructed on its first two possessions of the game, it’s hard not to be impressed by the team’s improvement. This is far and away the best the team has played this season.

I would have liked a bit more trickeration by Mike Sanford’s offense on the first series, when the Cards lost it on downs inside the five. Sanford has far more faith in the Cards’ O line than I do. But, given how woeful the team has been until today, the effort can’t be faulted.

Adam Froman has to secure the ball. That he didn’t caused the Cards to miss another TD.

It could, woulda — but not shoulda — been 14 zip.

Froman’s throwing pretty well. Receivers are catching pretty well. Powell is a running machine. There have been some key 3d down conversions.

The defense is playing aggressively, including the secondary that’s actually broken up some passes.

Josh Chichester made yet another bonehead mistake, running into the kicker when the Beavers had to punt from their endzone.

Maybe he should try hoops again.

Loved how Louisville went for it on 4th and long at the Oregon State 28 with about 4:00 on the clock. Froman got the 1st on a broken play scamper. There was holding on the D anyway.

Powell scored on the next play.

No guts. No glory.

The Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away.

On the ensuing kickoff, U of L special team allowed the Beavers great field position. Oregon State drove it down Louisville’s throats on the short field.

Louisville is certainly a vastly improved team.

That said, Oregon State is seriously overrated at #25 in the country.

At the half: Louisville 14, Oregon State 21.
