During the run up to the well publicized current extortion trial in Federal District Court, any number of people have asked if I’m among the 45 credentialed media covering the trial?
I am not.
This criminal matter has nothing to do with sports news, sports rumors or sports innuendo.
Just like Steve Kragthorpe’s departure from the football staff at Texas A & M, the Sypher trial, while certainly of public record, deals with out of bounds situations not directly related to sports.
I love the lurid as much as the next guy. I hypothesize and gossip with friends. I try to consume every morsel of info about such situations.
But . . . I won’t comment on such matters here.
I have backflipped into the muck here. And I’m sure I’ll do so in the future. But I do not comment upon personal matters. Period. If some off the field imbroglio affects performance, and I have some substantiation of that, I’ll write about it. If not, you’ll need to harvest such gossipularity somewhere else.
Given some of the things you’ve read here, you might consider my position duplicitous.
Maybe so. But even a gossip monger like myself has to have SOME ethical standards.
So there ya go.
Our favorite seasons of the year are just over the horizon and I’ll be weighing in daily if not more.
But, if it’s Sypher trial smack you’re looking for, check out Andy Wolfson’s reporting in the C-J.
