Waterloo Wednesday, And I’m Talking Elba & Spain

Goodbye Canada, Hello Elba. No, you haven’t missed any breaking news flash. The University of Waterloo is not the latest member of the Big 10, 11, 12.

The school is in Ontario. Thus it plays Canadien football.

Except for the season coming up.

Seems a reserve wide receiver was arrested for possession and sale of anabolic steroids. So, unlike Southern Cal — who, when presented with reasonable penalties for egregious NCAA transgressions said “What, us, you can’t be serious?” — UDub went in the other direction.

The school suspended play for an entire year. And put the entire coaching staff on administrative leave.

How Napoleonic. Then again, unlike Bonaparte, the Warriors will live to play another day.

Blame It On The Barcelona. Funny thing happened on World Cup favorite Spain’s trip to the title.

They lost its opener to the Swiss, 0-1. The country had won its last dozen games and something like 48 of the last 49 in international competition. The Spaniards had never lost to Switzerland.

Blame it on the vuvuzelas.

Can Spain bounce back?

Well, maybe. But no team has ever won the World Cup after losing its opening contest. Only three have been crowned when losing any game during the quadrennial competition.

What club is that, Feherty? The coincident time frame of the World Cup and U.S. Open at Pebble Beach has me thinking. Wonder what short tempered Tiger Woods’ Steve Williams would do if he saw a fan in the crowd with a vuvuzela?

Even if the fan wasn’t blowing it?

Actually, with the way Woods is playing, he might get Williams to put one of the plastic buzzing horns in his bag to use for some especially arduous shot from the Pacific shoreline.

Meanwhile in Catsylvania. At catspause.com, a poster named lyngz started a thread titled, “I’m bringing a vuvuzela to Rupp next season!!”

“Anyone with me,” he asked.

The first response, “What seat will you be in, I’m bringing a shotgun.”

Where’s all the gloom & doom over the Eric Bledsoe situation gone, C.D. Not enough info to dance on Calipari’s and we Cat fans grave yet?

You Cats fans give me grief when you think I’m being unfair and giving your team too much grief. You Cats fans give me grief when I praise the Cats for not being effusive enough. You Cats fans give me grief when I say nothing.
