Kragthorpe Out at Louisville . . . Who is Next?

Tom Jurich announced at a noon press conference that Steve Kragthorpe has been relieved of his duties as U of L football coach. He told the coach, “the school wants to move in the right direction.”

Jurich took full responibility for the situation. “It’s 100% my responsibility.”

I’m advised by someone close to the university, but not one of my regular sources, that a contract was prepared earlier in the week for a new coach. That the contract was for an annual salary in excess of $2 million per year.

This would seem to be Tuberville or Leach territory, but the source either didn’t know whose name was on it or chose not to reveal it.

I’m told that proper parties at the university have signed off on the contract.

I have no idea how valid this rumor is, so I view it with some skepticism. But the source is in a position that he/ she would know, and thus I pass it on.

At his press conference, Jurich indicated he does not have a single replacement in mind, but there’s a group he’s looking at. Jurich advised he will not speak with any possible replacements until the regular seasons at their current schools are completed.
