Whether it means anything or not viz a viz the Kragthorpe situation, I’m advised that Tom Jurich was not in Birmingham today. Was he somewhere else? Or, if in town, why wasn’t he at the basketball luncheon? After talking with several sources, I have reason to believe that, despite denials by university athletic spokespeople regarding the internet report discussed below, there is some movement regarding Kragthorpe’s future at U of L in the works. Change is in the air.
Of course every Cardinal fan with a broadband connection — or a ticket to today’s hoops luncheon — has heard the rumor that is strafing across the cybergalaxy, and spread like an LA wildfire through the lunch crowd.
Which is that Tom Jurich and Stever Kragthorpe, or people respresenting them, have met and that there will be a press conference in the next few days. At which time, SK will either “resign” or some such scenario will kick into gear by which Louisville will have a new coach . . . as early as the UConn game, possibly by season’s end, or most assuredly by opening kickoff next season.
Let me make it clear, I’m not the source of the rumor. Nor do I personally have any information other than what I’ve blogged here previously.
I know everybody’s talking. When I walked into the hotel lobby, here are the opening lines asked me in my first three conversations:
“Gruden or Tuberville? Whose it going to be?”
“Is it true Tommy Tuberville is U of L’s next coach?”
“What do you know about the rumor? You really think Tom will pull the plug mid-season?”
So that’s all I know. Oh yeah, other than this. Everybody even remotely connected to the U of L basketball community was at the luncheon today . . . except Tom Jurich. Who was, Rick Pitino mentioned from the rostrum after consulting with, I believe, Kenny Klein, in Birmingham.
What’s it all about, Alfie? Legit movement on the situation? Much ado about nuttin’ honey. I dunno.
Stay tuned. It’s going to get spicier before it get resolved.

Kenny Kline told the afternoon Underdogs on WKRD that Jurich and Kragthorpe have not had a meeting nor have any representatives of Jurich and Kragthorpe had any meeting.
There is no press conference scheduled for any day this week.
That being said, this was on MSNBC.com:
Via email, UL Assistant Sports Information Director Rocco Gasparro told CFT that such a meeting did not take place.
I think where there is smoke there is fire. Or in this case “fired.”
