SchnellSpeak: 08.20.09

A behemoth named Josh Savidge is the only senior on Coach Cupid’s defensive line. So Savidge has been the holler guy. He’s taking charge on that side of the ball and has emerged as the unit’s leader. It didn’t take the Schnell many words to describe his feelings:

“It is a match made in heaven.”

As for the other side of the ball, Coach With A History has always worked from a two back philosophy, one of whom is a workhorse, for the most part unsung fullback. This year, when the Fighting Owls have the football, Willie Rose is going to fill the spot. How does Coach feel about the guy who needs to protect the quarterback, catch the three yard pass, ram the line in the red zone and generally be all purpose?

Schnell is thinkin’ Olympian that’s what. The all around talent. Rafer Johnson. Bruce Jenner. Daley Thompson.

His fullback is “(n)ot necessarily somebody who could win a 100-meter, could win a mile run, could win the javelin or the high jump. But add them all together and he’s what we consider the best athlete.”

Why is it I feel like I know more about the fighting Owls than I do about the Fighting Cardinals?

Because, well, the Schnell can say more about his team with one harrumph than Master of Say Nothing CoachSpeak Kragthorpe will say in a season.
