I’ve talked with several recruiting gurus about baller Fab Melo’s decision to attend Syracuse instead of the apparent front-runner for his services , U of L.

All are dumbfounded by the decision.

Two fellows confirmed that the Cardinal coaching staff  thought the kid would commit to U of L as late as the evening before his announcement. One pointed out that there are significant Louisville connections to the player’s AAU team, but indicated that, contrary to the norm, Melo’s high school coach seemed to be calling the shots.

All agreed that Melo, a foreigner, is way naive about the system, and was being led through the system by others. One, when asked whether the kid was savvy about the system, indicated the prepster “doesn’t have a clue.” When I shared that with another recruiting expert, he laughed and offered, “Less than a clue.”
