Brooks Demurs, Kragthorpe Waffles

We know football is drawing nigh in the commonwealth when they hold the Governor’s Cup scramble and luncheon.

At the annual schmoozefest today, Rich Brooks inferred he was heading for the last roundup, getting ready to hang up his rock & roll shoes, looking forward to napping with the grandkids, dusting off his nine iron . . . choose your metaphor. Conjecture is now rampant that this might be the UK coach’s last season on the sidelines. He’s past Social Security age you know and seems a much more sensible guy than Paterno, Bowden or our main man we like to call the Schnell, all of whom will be buried with their cleats on.

After we all lambasted Brooks’ hire (moi aussi) , and gave him continued grief for several seasons, whodathunk he’d be so respected by the Wildcat faithful. (I first wrote that he’s beloved, but that would be too strong.) Smart fans, they. Understanding he’s doing about as good a job at UK as is possible in the kill or be killed SEC football climate is a wise perspective.

Joker Phillips, you’re on deck.

U of L coach Steve Kragthorpe apparently displayed his penchant for coachspeak. (Other business prevented me from actually attending. But I’ve watched the tapes.) He did espouse an offensive philosophy, which translated to Petrinospeak reads that he intends to “feed the studs.” The Cards former mentor, now on the Arkansas Razorback sideline, knew how to get the fork to their mouths. Kragthorpe has yet to display even minimal manual dexterity for such an action.

TJ, get that Turner Gill’s cell number on your speed dial.

Stay tuned. You can almost smell the brats cooking on the tailgate.

Appreciate the kind words for Coach Brooks, Seedy.

His retirement will be very bittersweet for the Big Blue Nation…

    Hello there,

Thanks for sharing the link – but unfortunately it seems to be down? Does anybody here at score.leoweekly.com have a mirror or another source?

    Cheers,
    James
