The Indy guard will just be a junior this season, meaning he won’t be able to suit up for the college of his choice until autumn of 2011. Yet, fans of several schools are anxiously awaiting his decision.
As if it would make any difference NOW.
Much of the anticipation is due to a statement last winter by his father, who played for The Rick at BU, that the kid would make an announcement at the end of the season.
Last season.
The kid keeps hinting he’s ready to cast his lot, but . . . . . nuttin’ yet.
I’ve got several sources with competing whispers about the situation.
One camp says Tom Crean and his guys have made a major push for the kid. You’ve got to be a strong-willed young Hoosier hoopster to ignore the Crimson & Cream. Especially with a salesman like Crean making the pitch.
The other sources say Louisville is the choice and always has been. But . . . . . . . Teague and his parents are worried that the Karen Sypher mishmash might affect Pitino’s longevity on the Belknap campus, and are waiting some resolution of that before the commit.
Like I said, all this hand wringing over a kid with two years of high school left. (Of course, the Sypher might just drag out that long, if she doesn’t shut her yap and get a lawyer whose advice she’ll take.)
By the by, where is Jeff Withey now? UCLA or Southern Cal? Arizona? Uh, no. Used to be though. Kansas? Uh, yeah, I think so. Didn’t he commit to U of L once, talk about how much he was looking forward to playing for The Rick? Correct answer: Yes.
