Oh you especially clever sports fans, you know it’s a trick question.
But a fascinating one nonetheless. The Red Wings’ Lidstrom is the best defenseman in the NHL and five time Stanley Cup champ. On none of which trophy carrying squads, might I add, was he aided by Shaq. Yuk yuk.
Could he stop the most potent offensive force in the NBA? Or would He With New Toothy Scowl shred him like he does most all who check him on the hardwood?
Oh I dunno. The real question is whether Lidstrom can stop Sid Crosby or Pittsburgh teammate Evgeni Malkin tonight. If Detroit wins in Steeltown, they’d be the champs for the second year in a row. Which question is of more immediacy since tonight’s possible series clincher in the Stanley Cup playoffs starts an hour before Orlando and LA La in the Land o’ Disney.
The hockey game has just begun. Interesting, the Pens have started with both stars on the same shift on the ice. FYI, this is not normal operating procedure. One of the advantages Pittsburgh has tonight as the home team is they get the last shift change. Which means they can match up against Detroit as they choose, not vice versa, when Detroit substitutes.
Detroit just committed the first offense of the game. Pittsburgh gets the first 5 on 4 power play of the game. According to my favorite NHL commentator this is huge, because special teams is one area where Pittsburgh can create a clear advantage against the Red Wings.
Detroit killed the penalty.
Have I mentioned how hockey, like well every other sport, is a lot better in high def?
Okay I realize that you don’t care enough about hockey, and I, frankly, don’t know enough nor am clever enough to do a Bill Simmons minute by minute for the rest of the evening. So with the first period of the hockey game about half over and in recess for a TV timeout, I’ll be over and out.
I’ll be back if something of significance occurs that you gotta gotta gotta know.
