Weekend’s Biggest Choke???

First of all, understand, I’m not doing this to be mean. The individual and team I rooted for both lost. So it’s not like I’m trying to pile on. (I gotta do something to keep you readers involved.)

It’s just that I can’t recall two such monumental meltdowns in sporting contests that mattered within the same 24 hour period.

So you tell me what you think, who more egregiously snatched defeat from the jaws of almost certain victory — Kenny Perry in the Masters or Miami (Ohio) in the NCAA Hockey Championship?

Miami was up two goals with less than a minute to play in regulation against favored Boston University. The Terriers pulled their goalie and scored twice in that last minute to send the game to OT. Then they won it with a quirky goal in the first sudden death period.

Kenny Perry was up two strokes with two holes to play. He went bogey bogey, ending up in a three-way playoff. Then lost it on the second playoff hole.

Both situations were so sad.

They both lost on lucky shots each of which I suppose you would attribute to skill. Also, I don’t think I’d call shooting -1 in the final round at Augusta National choking. But you’d have to actually play golf to understand that.
