I don’t know much about women’s college hoops. Shame on me. I simply haven’t followed the Cards, or any other school for the matter, enough to know if or how badly the NCAA botched seeding its tournament.
I do know it’s a sign of how far the game has come, a sign of how important Angel McCoughtry has been for U of L’s program, a sign of a truly developing very loyal fan base that there is such a brouhaha over the Cards #3 seed. And that, if they win, they would have to possibly play a lower seeded LSU on the latter’s home court, instead of contesting the opening round in Bowling Green, the school’s favored destination.
At The Rick’s press conference Monday he referred to how pissed he was at the men’s team’s #4 seed in 2005. He blew off a scheduled Selection Sunday press conference at Porcini’s he was so upset. Ah, but the team then went out and won four games to make it to the Final Four.
The antidote for a seeding slight?
Git ‘er done!
I do know this. The women’s NCAA tournament will not have truly arrived — or really be fair — until they stop allowing teams to play games on their home court. As it stands, the UConns, Tennessees and LSUs of the hoops world have a distinct advantage because of their rabid fan bases and attendance records.
The practice is wrong. It is un-American. Period.
