Okay so I’m thinking this morning that I need to write and tell every pigskin fan that missed the end of the Kansas/ Mizzou Border War what doofuses they were. Four TDs and four lead changes in the last 7:00 minutes in snow before the Rock Chalk Jayhawks prevailed on a missed Tiger field goal. It was the one to watch at the time even if Insight doesn’t deliver an HD signal for FSN Ohio or FSN South.
Oh silly me. This morning I read about The Schnell’s victory in front of maybe 16,000 and no TV audience in the Shula Bowl at Dolphin Stadium. FAU 57, FIU 50 in overtime. The Fighting Owls overcame not one but two fourteen point deficits. In the fourth quarter. The last two scores came in the last two minutes of regulation. Who better to describe the mayhem but The Man himself:
“In a game in which eight touchdowns were scored in the fourth quarter – Where the hell did the defense go?”
Overcome with the thrill of victory, The Coach of Many Words had but a few. (At least that have been reported for posterity thus far. Stay tuned, when more come, I’ll get them to you immediately.)
“A game like this will punctuate the landscape of Florida Atlantic football for a long time.”
Understanding that his squad is bowl eligible but are more than likely through for the season, the Schnell had some kind words for his graduates. “This has been a great group of seniors. They came in when we were in the interim period between Division I-AA and Division I-A. They carried the program a long way and they will finish up carrying it a long way. Their presence on this campus, their devotion to the team, there’s part of the reason why we reached the plateau we find ourselves in. They are an unselfish group that came for the good of the university and its football more than personal glorification and wanted to be the ones to develop tradition and they have.”
