It’s yet another Big Rivalry Saturday, and I trust you are revved to the red line for the big one in Dolphin Stadium. That would be the Shula Bowl between the FAU Fighting Owls and the FIU — that would be Florida International University — Golden Jaguars. ‘Bama vs. Auburn — fuhgedddaboutit!
Such is the import of the battle that our main man Howard Schnellenberger has set aside his loquasciousness and is talking straight: “It looks like we have finally gotten a rivalry. It is a game against two equal football teams with both having a lot a lot riding on the game.”
Exactly what is riding on the game isn’t quite clear. FIU is 4-6 overall and 3-3 in the Sun Belt.
Oops. The Schnell is always there to remind me: “It is important we end up bowl-eligible.” The Fighting Owls are 5-6.
Such is the clamor for tickets that some who matriculate at the Boca Raton campus are on a collison course with a new addition to their wardrobe. The first 500 FAU students that show up at the stadium get free t-shirts.
